Fluidized Bed Incineration Plants – State of The Art Thermal Utilization

Fluidized Bed Technology is state of the art thermal utilization designed for ultimate Power / Thermal Generation (0.5 to 85 MW) with Environmental Protection for Thermal Disposal.

Specially designed for low calorific value waste (like sludge from WWTP) which cannot be burned in a rotary kiln. With intensive mixing in the hot sand bed, the sludge is broken-up in small particles with the advantage that the remaining water can be evaporated very fast and completely. Homogeneous burning in FBI enables a very even temperature distribution across the diameter of FBI; this allows the system to achieve very low emission values (e.g. NOx, SOx, CO etc.), meeting phosphorous recovery and ash collecting requirements.

No other incineration type can deliver such efficiency.

Case Study

Self-sustaining incineration of municipal sewage sludge based on RASCHKA fluidized bed incineration technology; FBI DOES NOT need any additional fuel (like gas or diesel) unlike other incineration systems, as long as the overall heat fuel balance is positive the incineration process is “self-sustaining” and does not need supporting fuel. Utilising waste heat from incineration for drying of the sludge & power generation.

Self-sustaining incineration of municipal sewage sludge based on RASCHKA fluidized bed incineration technology, utilising waste heat from incineration for drying of the sludge & power generation.

For a 0.6MW power generation, the following sludge quantities are required: 1 ton/h of sludge containing 55% water (45% dry substance) – typically sludge from biological waste treatment arrives with around 5% dry substance  and we would mechanically dewater and used steam heated dryer to achieve the desired pre drying rate before it goes into FBI. In Europe we calculate 50 – 55g per person and day dry substance – based on the 0.6 MW case it would require a population of about 200,000 people to generate that quantity of sludge.
